Here at Monroe Dental Care, we believe the best dentistry is one that can prevent disease. Hence we encourage all patients to visit the office at least twice a year.

What does the 6-month visit include?

Prophylaxis of dental cleaning with your hygienist
Exam with the dentist:

Oral cancer screening

X Rays (once a year)
Digital radiographs: Here at Monroe Dental Care we switched to digital radiographs. They use a fraction of the radiation needed for conventional film radiographs, the images are obtained instanously, and they are more accurate at reflecting early signs of dental disease, including decay and bone loss”. )
Fluoride treatment (optional for patients who are prone to developing cavities)

Why do we recommend the 6 months recall?

It takes around 6 months for cavities to develop, it’s ideal for the dentist to catch them and treat them while they’re still small versus waiting until they cause more serious problems as they extend deeper into the tooth. The dentist will also perform a comprehensive oral cancer screening. In addition to looking out for cavities, your hygienist will also give you a dental cleaning to remove set-in stains and hardened plaque stuck between your teeth and under your gums.

Why Fluoride treatment?

As part of a comprehensive preventative visit, we encourage all our patients to consider Fluoride treatment when seeing their hygienist. Fluoride is often offered to children, but its effectiveness does not have an age limit. If you’re an individual who’s prone to developing cavities, ask your hygienist for fluoride treatment to help prevent future decay.
